Kivu Writers

After a productive Skype conference yesterday, we are please to announce that we will be working in partnership with Kivu Writers this year.

Kivu Writers are an organisation seeking to kick-start a literary culture in Rwanda:

We have been going since 2000, working with secondary schools and adults to explore a diverse range of writing styles including journalism, poetry, fiction, storytelling, scriptwriting and songwriting.

Our goal is to develop a written literary culture across the country, and to raise awareness of the potential of creative writing to engage people on issues such as HIV/AIDS, gender equity, human rights and social tolerance.

Nushu's Chair, Cathryn, appears in the above picture from 2007, second from the right on the very back row. This was during a writing workshop they held for secondary school children at Lake Kivu.

In 2009, Nushu's Treasurer, Marion, helped to train Kivu Writers' Board of Trustees.

We are very much looking forward to working with them again, providing technical support, publishing assistance, and participating in joint project development.
